Following the recent local elections, the Invercargill Licensing Trust board is preparing for its scheduled strategic planning session in January.

As part of changes made after Covid, ILT now reviews its strategic direction every three years,  aligning this work with the triennial elections.

Chief executive Chris Ramsay said the regular review acts as a valuable health check, helping the board and executive team assess current progress and confirm priorities for the next three to five years.

“Each year we create a clear plan that drives our priority projects and sets out the key tasks for our executive and wider team. That structure is especially important as we continue to navigate cost-of living pressures and increasing competition in the hospitality sector,” he said.

ILT president Paddy O’Brien said the planning sessions were standard practice and an important way to make sure ILT stayed responsive to the community and the economy.

“We know our businesses are performing strongly, but we have a continuous improvement mindset.  We always ask what more we can do for our community, how we can continue to look after our people, and where the new opportunities are,” he said.

“An independent facilitator will again support the board and executive team through this process,  helping to keep discussion robust and focused.”

Following the planning sessions, a detailed business plan will follow.

As a group, ILT has returned more than $225 million to the community and currently provides  around $9 million in donations and grants each year.

“We are strongly motivated to maintain that level of support for our community and continued  support of our businesses is critical to that,” Paddy said.  The board is confident about the road ahead.

“The future of ILT is strong, built on the enduring loyalty and trust of the Invercargill community and  our shareholders. We’re very grateful for that support and are committed to making sure it  continues to translate into real benefits for our city.”
