The Invercargill Licensing Trust celebrated a record number of recipients at the 2025 Tertiary Scholarship Presentation on Monday night.
A total of 70 recipients each received $2000 for three years to support their tertiary studies - from budding aerospace engineers to artists, healthcare professionals and teachers.
ILT President Paddy O’Brien said the increase from 65 to 70 scholarships recognised the high calibre and impressive character of candidates this year.
“The selection panel were blown away by the standard of applicants. Our city continues to nurture ambitious, community-minded young people with bright futures,” he said.
“We’re proud to help these future leaders and professionals achieve their dreams.”
Since launching the tertiary scholarship initiative in 2007, ILT has supported more than 900 local students with funding exceeding $5 million.
“These tertiary scholarships highlight our ongoing commitment to education, which extends from our Learn to Swim programme and gifted education support through to helping students pursue their tertiary goals,” he said.
The process of earning an ILT tertiary scholarship is quite an undertaking for the applicants. Each student is interviewed by a panel of three highly regarded adjudicators, who evaluated candidates on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community contribution, and aspirations.
