ILT backs Sharks' semi-final charge with $24,000 boost

ILT has stepped up with an additional $24,000 contribution to help the Southland Sharks travel to Christchurch for their semi-final clash with the Canterbury Rams this Sunday, 2 August.

The SBS Bank Sharks' semi-final appearance caps off a standout season for the club and marks the second consecutive year the team has reached this stage of the competition. It is a significant moment for the team, their supporters and the wider Southland community, with strong local interest expected as the region gets behind them this weekend.

ILT President Paddy O'Brien said the organisation was delighted to support the Sharks at such an important point in the season.

"The team has had a standout season and earned its place in the final four, and ILT is delighted to help make this next step possible for the players, the club and the wider community that has backed them all season," Mr O'Brien said.

"ILT is backing the team to keep their momentum going this weekend, with the possibility of a final back in Invercargill still within reach."

The funding comes on top of the season support already provided by ILT and reflects the organisation's commitment to basketball in Southland and to the people and groups that bring the community together.

Southland Basketball General Manager Rod Bannister said the support would make a real difference as the team prepares for the biggest match of the season.

"We're incredibly grateful to ILT for this support. It gives the team the opportunity to focus on the game ahead and means a lot to have that backing behind us," Bannister said.

The Sharks will take on the Canterbury Rams in Christchurch on Sunday, 2 August at 6pm. ILT bars and taverns will be showing the game, giving local supporters the chance to get behind the team and enjoy the atmosphere closer to home.
