Rugby Park's fireworks are back — and bigger than before.
The ILT Fireworks Spectacular returns on Friday October 2, 2026, when the Southland Stags host Northland in their final regular season home game. Kick-off is 7.10pm. The fireworks go up at approximately 8.50pm, straight after full-time.
Now in its third year, the display is included with standard match admission. Adult tickets start from $20, and every paying adult can bring two children aged 13 and under for free. No extras, no surprises at the gate.
ILT is funding the display for the third consecutive year, with Rugby Southland handling logistics at Rugby Park Stadium. This year's programme has been extended — more fireworks, more effects — making it the largest display the ground has ever hosted.
ILT president Paddy O'Brien said the event had found its footing fast. "It's fantastic to see how quickly the ILT Fireworks Spectacular has become a tradition for Southland families. The fireworks have quickly become a highlight of the season, and we're pleased to help make that experience possible again in 2026."

A Rugby Southland spokesman said the community response over the past two years had been the driving force behind scaling things up. "This is shaping up to be one of the biggest events we've ever hosted at Rugby Park. Over the past two years, the ILT Fireworks Spectacular has become one of the standout events on our calendar, and the community response has been incredible. For the third edition in 2026, we wanted to go even bigger and create a truly unforgettable experience for our fans and families."

The display is weather dependent and may be postponed or adjusted if conditions are unsuitable. Corporate hosting and tent options are available for the Friday night slot.
