Last week after whatsoninvers.nz busted Invercargill City council for water blasting the Museum while issuing a hosing ban to ratepayers, council have responding with more excuses -why do as we say, not as we do via their facebook page.
From ICC Facebook page:
We know many of you have had concerns regarding water usage and waterblasting at Southland Museum & Art Gallery.
It’s important to note that restrictions only apply to domestic use.
Water Manager Alister Murray says the biggest influence on water consumption is the uncontrolled use of hoses and sprinklers on household lawns and gardens, that is why the restrictions have only been applied to residential properties.
However, we also checked in with Building Assets Manager and Museum Manager Paul Horner to better understand why the work has continued on the museum roof:
“Maintenance work is being carried out on the roof of the museum. The Museum Trust Board has been planning to solve the persistent roof leaking that occurs at the museum and to repaint it as the paint of the Bondor panels is near the end of its life.
This work is now in progress and of course must be done during periods of good weather, so it has been programmed to be carried out in late January and February.
Three to four days are needed to water blast the roof (it is not finished yet, there is one more day to do). This is preparation for applying a sealer then an overcoat of paint.
The joints in the Bondor panels will also have a tape applied over them to prevent roof leaks.
The work couldn’t have been delayed because it must be done during fine weather and has been programmed to be carried out during the summer.”
