Hospice Southland has an extra $30,000 to put towards its free palliative care service, thanks to its recent Summer Holiday raffle.

Joanne Geeson was the lucky recipient of the $6000 prize hamper, that featured a variety of prizes that she can share with all of her family.

A whopping 9000 tickets were sold over the Christmas period in the raffle fundraiser, with prizes coming from businesses all over Southland, as well as Winton, Gore and Queenstown.

Mitre 10 Mega’s – Invercargill, Gore, Te Anau, Winton and Queenstown, New Worlds – Elles Road, Windsor, Queenstown, Gore & Winton, Southern Service Station, Baillie & Lewis, Ray White, Vital Signs, Real NZ, Kingston Flyer, ILT, The Warehouse and E Hayes & Sons, were all involved in donating prizes to the hamper and proudly supported by whatsoninvers.nz

CEO Flora Gilkison said it was an amazing response, “our coffers were getting pretty empty with all of the increased costs we have to cope with,” she said.

Hospice Southland also had amazing support from various community groups selling tickets around the province and in Queenstown, including Rotary, Lions, Inner Wheel, Harcourts Real Estate, coffee groups and Hospice volunteers.

“A huge thank you to all who made it possible to help do what we do best which is provide free palliative care with dignity to the Southland and Wakatipu Basin patients and their families.”
