A fantastic entry of fifty-seven competitors contested a grass autocross event organised by the Southland Sports Car Club at the property of Nigel King at Rakahouka on Sunday.

While it was a non-championship clubsport event it was extremely closely contested with Roger Laird of Gore taking the overall honours with a best time of 84.27 seconds just heading off Invercargill driver Andrew Lawrie with Malcolm Mitchell third.

In the Ladies section Jo O’Brien took victory from Brianna Vincent and Aimee Morrison with a time of 86.13 seconds.

Laird also headed the Men’s over 1600cc class from Lawrie and Scott Welsh while Mitchell took the Men’s Under 1600cc Class from David Wild and property owner Nigel King. O’Brien took the Ladies Under 1600cc Class from Morrison and Abby Ward while Vincent won the Ladies Over 1600cc Class from Loren McKay and Tina Scott.

The Southland Sports Car Club will hold Round 5 of the Evolution Motorsport Clubsport Championship with a twilight Motorkhana at Teretonga Park on Thursday 30 January followed by an Autocross at the circuit on Sunday 2 February.
