The heat was on when Sunday’s temperatures hit the highest on record since 1921, Metservice recorded 32.3C at 5.30pm while H&J Smiths clock at 3pm was 34 degrees.

Other temperatures reported around Southland were Winton 42 deg Waimumu 33 deg, and Gore 32 deg.

Metservice say It’s another warm day around the country, ost kiwis will see a good bit of sun.

Metservice said the conditions were caused by a high pressure system to the east of the South Island which, in combination with a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea, was drawing warm air down from the tropics.
