In a dramatic showdown that will be etched in the annals of New Zealand rugby history, Southland Boys’ High School First XV secured their maiden national title today, toppling Westlake Boys’ High School 32-29 in the thrilling final of the New Zealand Barbarians 1st XV Top 4 Championships held in Rotorua.

Despite trailing 19-10 at halftime, Southland Boys’ High exhibited unwavering resolve and unmatched determination as they orchestrated a remarkable second-half comeback, amassing 22 unanswered points to seize the coveted championship.  The triumph took on an even more profound significance as Southland Boys’ High School secured their inaugural Moascar Cup, the oldest and most esteemed rugby trophy in New Zealand.

The Moascar Cup’s legacy traces back to its first contention in 1920 and had remained under Westlake Boys’ High’s stewardship for the past two years.
