The game was between Southland Rams and Otago Whalers. Played at Dunedin Saturday September 7th .
It was the final game in the South Island Rugby League Premiership competition .
Otago took the win with a full time score of 38 to 22 . The half time score was Otago 24 / Southland 18 .
Otago Whalers will now head to Auckland next month to play the top North Island team at Mt Smart Stadium . Otago made it through with a very narrow margin, had the Rams scored another try in the final game it would have been them heading to Auckland .
However the Rams deserve full credibility for winning all of their other provincial games this season and performing very well for the last two seasons – Very commendable considering another certain sports code has struggled to gain any wins in recent seasons – yet that code attracts a large amount more funding than what is apportioned to the Southland Rams.
