Cold southerlies are expected to affect the south of the South Island from this afternoon through to later Tuesday, bringing wintry conditions to the south of the South Island. Snow should lower to 400 to 500m at times, with significant snow accumulation above 800m. A heavy snow warning is now in force for inland Southland, Central Otago and inland Clutha.
People are advised to keep up date with the latest forecast in case more areas are added to the Warning.
Heavy Snow Warning
Heavy snow may disrupt travel in affected areas and could damage trees and powerlines. Cold conditions may cause stress for livestock.
Area: Central Otago, inland Clutha and Southland
Valid: 31 hours from 11:00pm Sunday to 6:00am Tuesday
Forecast: Snow is expected to fall to 400 to 500m this afternoon, with some heavy snow above 800m. Expect 30 to 40cm of snow to accumulate above 800m during the period, and lesser amounts to 600m.
