A low east of Otago directs a southerly flow and rain onto the south of the South Island. The low should move away to the east during Tuesday morning and the wind and rain should ease. Heavy Rain Watches remain in force for Southland and eastern Otago, and a Wind Watch is in force for Otago.

Forecast: A period of heavy rain, which may approach warning criteria. Note, although the rain eases after 6am Tuesday, further short bursts of heavy rain are expected during Tuesday and early Wednesday, especially about western Southland. Although the subsequent rain is not likely to come close to warning criteria it may keep rivers higher than normal or cause minor flooding due to the extended period of rain or showers.

Forecast: Period of persistent southerly rain. Rainfall accumulations could approach warning amounts.

Forecast: Westerly winds may approach severe gale at times in exposed places.
Area: North Otago, Dunedin and Clutha
