Members of the public who see people in HAZMAT suits at Southland Hospital on Thursday morning are advised this is part of a training exercise.

Southland Hospital staff and the Fire Service will be testing the Emergency Department’s procedures should a patient present to ED and be found to have chemical contamination.

The Fire Service will be in attendance, installing HAZMAT showers in the ambulance bay, so staff can go through the full incident from start to finish.

Hospital staff are aware the HAZMAT suits will be highly visible from the road and want to reassure people that there is no cause for alarm.
