A fantastic number of newcomers to surfing took advantage of the Southland Boardriders Association Have A Go Day at Colac Bay on Sunday.
Jess Terrill of the Southland Surf School said it was a “massive turnout.” “Plenty of newcomers were in the water surfing and every one of them managed to get up and surfing.
The conditions were pleasant and easy and the water was pristine for learning – nice, easy and calm. There were a lot of smiley, happy faces.”
Boyd Wilson of the Southland Boardriders Association, said, “it was a fantastic event with nearly 50 people turning up, from young children to a grandmother, all who had never experienced surfing before.
It just reinforced that surfing is a sport for all of the family and with a bit of expert tuition from Jess anyone can do it. All stood up and the smiles on their faces when they did was amazing. Many of the people participating joined the Southland Boardriders Club as a result.”
The club intends to hold more fun events suitable for people of all abilities later in the summer.
