Riverton driver Noel Atley had a great day on Saturday at the SpeedWorks Events Motorsport NZ Championship at Teretonga Park near Invercargill.

Atley, a former President of the Southland Sports Car Club, races in Class 3 of the Formula 1600 Championship and arrived at his home circuit in the lead of the Class 3 battle. Driving one of the oldest cars in the field, Atley qualified his 1984 Class 3 Crossle eighth fastest overall in the field of twenty-one cars in the wet conditions and then secured a tenth and eighth place ahead of many more modern cars in the two races. On Sunday he secured a fifteenth and twelfth place.
