The Pork Pie mini’s have started leaving the south to head back home, with $411,000 raised so far since the fundraising journey began last week.
Co-organiser Kev Hollamby has been involved in running the event since 2013, which he put on his bucket list, and has since “inherited” it.
Highlights of the 2500km road trip from Paihia to Bluff as a fundraiser for KidsCan, included a fantastic trip down the South Island’s West Coast, which Kev said was always memorable.
“It’s away from the hustle and bustle and we love the people down there – real people.”
Hari Hari School has turned it into a bit of a tradition now every year when the mini’s arrive in town, and they make a point of stopping just as the kids finish for the day.
Kev said as usual on the road trip there were a few incidents, including a steering wheel almost falling off outside of Christchurch, and co-incidentally a local finding just the part to fix it.
“He was starting to have problems turning corners,” he said.
Plumber Dan’s team has managed to drive the length of the country in half a mini with no roof, and fortunately only encountered one day of rain.
A mini towing a trailer also had a bit of trouble, but other than that it was another successful event.
Keep a look out on Seven Sharp Wednesday April 19th for a special recording from the event at 7pm.
