There was a good crowd on course for the Invercargill Harness Racing Club’s Cup Day meeting on Saturday.
The feature race, the Ascot Park Hotel Invercargill Cup for a stake of $32,000 over 3200 metres, was won by the Mark Purdon/Natalie Rasmussen trained Funatthebeach in an impressive run in the windy conditions.
Those in attendance enjoyed eleven races overall while there were some excellent prizes up for grabs. The big winner was Michael Wyatt of Dunedin who won a seven night stay at the Peninsular Beachfront Resort in Mooloolaba courtesy of the resort plus $1000 towards his airfares courtesy of Beach Road Holiday Park.
Others were drawn to have a go at “The Bets In The Bag” with several contestants winning betting vouchers upon which they made very good returns.
Terry Booth of Invercargill won a day of hospitality with the Tricode Syndicate after winning an ownership share for the day in the syndicate’s horse Please Shuddup which finished fifth in the penultimate race of the day.
Elsewhere on course the kids enjoyed free entertainment as part of the family friendly day.
