Get Started in Golf

Keen to try golf but don’t know where to start? Golf Southland has the answer!

Free Get Into Golf sessions are being held in Invercargill, so you can try it out under the guided instruction of a local professional who will help you get the basics right.

All equipment is supplied, and you just turn up on the night.

Aimed at adult beginners and new golfers, there will be a fun, friendly environment, all designed to help you to get started in golf.

The sessions will be held at Donovan Park from 5.30pm to 7pm on Monday 18, Wednesday 20, Monday 25 and Wednesday 27 November.

Primary School Tournaments

The Golf Southland Primary School Zone Tournaments are in full swing.

The Otautau 4 team of Ann-Maree Nicolson, Cruze Wech, Maggie Manson and Jake Anderson won the Western Zone tournament, over runners-up Dipton Red (Charlie Standish, Ella Hewitt, Matthew Cookson and Taine Withy) and third-placed Drummond 1 (Cormac Marron, Carey McKenzie, Khali Booth and Anvil Fraser).

Northern Southland 2 (Millie Roy, Gemma Bulleid, Briar Wilson and Jack Merchant) won the Northern Zone tournament. Runners-up were Northern Southland 1 (Jack Heslip, Noah Clearwater, Cody Lowe and Maisie Mitchell), and third place went to Riversdale 1 (Sam Small, Lykan Eaton, Lara North and Flynn Reed).

Freyberg Masters

The Southland Men’s Masters team had a tough time at the national masters tournament in Timaru last week.

There were some good games, and among them Southland managed two wins and a half as highlights from the week; defeating Otago 3-2, Poverty Bay-East Coast 3-2 and tying 2 ½ -all with Waikato. Southland finished in 12th place. Bay of Plenty won the national title.
