With perfect summer weather setting the stage, attendees were treated to a stellar line-up of performances by Cold Chisel, Icehouse, Bic Runga, and Everclear.

For 15 years, the Gibbston Valley Winery concert has been a cornerstone of Queenstown’s summer events. This year marked its farewell as the winery plans to redevelop its property, leaving organisers, Greenstone Entertainment, on the hunt for a new venue to continue the beloved tradition.

Amanda Calvert, CEO of Greenstone Entertainment, expressed pride in the event, saying, “Today’s Queenstown Summer Concert served up an epic line-up of truly exceptional artists across different genres resulting in a magnificent day of entertainment. We are so thrilled to close out our partnership with Gibbston Valley Winery on such a high.”

The show opened with a rousing performance by local Cromwell College band Misstep, whose energetic set showcased their promising talent. The first international act of the day was US rock band Everclear, led by frontman Art Alexakis. They thrilled the crowd with 90s classics like Santa Monica, Father of Mine, and Everything to Everyone.

Next, Bic Runga shifted the tempo, captivating fans with her smooth vocals and iconic tracks such as Drive, Sway, and Something Good. She was followed by Icehouse, helmed by Iva Davies, delivering hits like Great Southern Land, Hey Little Girl, and Electric Blue, which resonated with fans of all generations.

Closing the day with a bang, Australian rock legends Cold Chisel lit up the stage with a set spanning their five-decade career. Performing massive hits like Flame Trees, Khe Sanh, and Bow River, the band’s energy ensured the concert ended on a high note.

As the winery bids farewell to large-scale concerts, Greenstone Entertainment is actively working with Queenstown council and private stakeholders to secure a new location for future events. Calvert encouraged fans to join the Summer Concert’s next stops in Taupo and Whitianga, promising more unforgettable experiences.

The Gibbston Valley finale marked the end of an era, with long-time attendees soaking up the sun-drenched, festive atmosphere one last time. Deck chairs, sun hats, and singalongs filled the day, ensuring the concert series left the venue on a high note.
