Severe gales for parts of central and southern New Zealand and further heavy snow possible in the far south
A strong, unsettled and cold west to southwest flow lies over New Zealand, with several embedded troughs and fronts.
Severe weather warnings and watches for strong wind remain in force for parts of central and southern New Zealand, and a heavy snow watch is in force for southern Fiordland, Southland and Clutha.
Strong Wind Warning
Impact: Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
Area: Coastal parts of southern Fiordland & Southland including Stewart Island
Period: 11hrs from 8pm Tue, 14 Jun – 7am Wed, 15 Jun
Forecast: Severe west to southwest gales in exposed places, gusting 120km/h at times.
Heavy Snow Watch
Area: Clutha, Southland and Fiordland south of George Sound
Period: 13hrs from 8pm Tue, 14 Jun – 9am Wed, 15 Jun
Forecast: Snow is expected down to 300 metres, with periods of heavy snow possible above 400 metres. Snow amounts may approach warning criteria above 400 metres.

Area: Coastal Dunedin and Clutha
Period: 14hrs from 8pm Tue, 14 Jun – 10am Wed, 15 Jun
Forecast: Southwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed place
