A front is expected to continue to move northeast over central and northern New Zealand tonight and on Wednesday. The front is forecast to bring a period of heavy rain to Buller and the Tararua Range, where heavy rain watches remain in force.
In addition, strong wind warning for Southland and Clutha remains in force until midnight tonight (Tuesday).

Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Forecast: West to northwest gales are forecast to be severe at times, with gusts reaching 120 km/h in exposed places.
