Gale to severe gale westerlies covering many parts of the country

A strong unsettled west to southwest flow lies over New Zealand, with several embedded troughs and weakening fronts.

Severe weather warnings and watches for strong wind remain in force for many areas.

Impact: Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Forecast: Severe west to southwest gales in exposed places, gusting 120km/h at times.
