AFFLECK, Janet Margaret QSTJ, QSM:
Passed away in the care of Ribbonwood Country Home, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday February 21, 2026. Dearly loved wife of the late William (Bill), loved mother and mother-in-law of Margaret, Logan and Lyndal, William, the late Grace, Campbell and Mary, loved grandmother of Jessie-Ann, Megan, and Hamish; Olivia, and Scott; Jimmy, and Grace; Great Grandmother of Lillie. The family would like to thank Ribbonwood staff for the love and care shown to Janet. A private service for Janet will be held. Janet will be reunited with Bill at the Charlton Park Cemetery. GAVAN, Heather (née Fallow):
Born on 31 December 1926, Heather was the last surviving child of the late Earnest Matthew and Jessie Fallow and was preceded in death by her three brothers, Earnest, Kenneth, and Norman. Wife of the late Mervyn Gavan. A much loved mother and mother-in-law to Margaret and Joe, Colin, Shona and Bruce. A much loved Nana and Great Nana to all of her 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Much loved aunty to her nieces and nephews and a great friend to many. Heather passed away peacefully in her sleep on 20 February 2026 in the care of Bupa Ascot Care Home. As the last of her generation, Heather carried the torch and told the story of those who went before her. Heather will be dearly missed. A short service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, 24 February, at the Southland Crematorium. Messages to 144 Chelmsford Street.

TE AWHE, Makere Evelyn (Ma):
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Ma in the care of Hospice Southland and surrounded by the love of her whanau on Sunday 22 February 2026; aged 56 years. Much loved partner and soulmate of Greg Hewitt, deeply loved and cherished Mum of Hunter and Ngapera, and Santana and Shanaya, loved Nanny to Ellie and Amaia. Dearly loved and treasured daughter of Andrew* and Lovey, a much loved sister of Robert, Andrew and Rayleen, and Tira, a much loved aunty and friend. Ma will resting at Te Rau Aroha Marae, Bradshaw Street, Bluff until her service on Wednesday 25 February at 11.00am, private cremation to follow. You are invited to join the service via livestream by going to the Avenal Park website obituaries page and click on the link on Ma’s profile.
