Passed away peacefully at Lady Diana Isaac Retirement Village on Thursday, June 18, 2020, in her 86th year. Loved and adored wife of Trevor, loved mum of Helen and Warren, Warren and Debs, and Rosalie and Russell, much loved Nana of Charlotte, Joshua, Jennifer, and Dylan. A special thanks to the staff in the special care unit and the hospital wing at Lady Diana Isaac Retirement Village for their wonderful care and support shown to Josie and her family. JACOBS, Joanne Mary (nee McWhirter):
Jo was taken too early from us, on June 17, 2020, at Lakes District Hospital, after a brave battle with cancer, with Steve by her side. Much loved wife of Steve, loved daughter of Murray and Jan McWhirter, sister and sister-in-law of Russell and Marcia, stepmom to Steven and Felicia, and Aunty of Kate. A friend of all her family and friends. Jo was a ray of light and delight where ever she was. Glenise, Peter, Veronica, Mark, Maria, Jane and Marg, and all our respective families, would like to thank everyone who supported us following Paul’s untimely death. The prayers, good wishes, food, flowers, cards, emails, phone calls, visits and texts were greatly appreciated and encouraged us as we worked our way through a very difficult time. We enjoyed the support of those who were able to attend the Requiem Mass at such short notice and regret that we were restricted to 50 attendees. There were many more friends we would have liked to have had with us but pandemic restrictions ruled the day. Thanks to Fr Damian who made the Mass so personal to us. Thanks to the members of Pakeke Lions who formed a guard of honour at the cardboard factory, members of the emergency services and Gore Health Ltd staff who attended Paul so promptly and with great care and respect. A special thank you to Kevin Hammond and Liz Ryder who went above and beyond our expectations. Please accept this notice as a personal acknowledgement of our appreciation of your support.

Shirley, Greg, John, Simon, Deirdre, Adam, and their families, all wish to acknowledge the love and care shown to them since Russell passed to his eternal rest, be it through phone calls, cards, emails, gifts, baking or visits. Each message was special in its own way, and we thank everyone of you. Russell was a man of character and integrity, he left us a wonderful example and this was expressed in so many of your kind words. We will always be grateful to Hospice Southland, The District Nurses and the Carers for their sensitivity and care in the last week or so of Russell’s life. Also to J Fraser and Sons for their compliance with our wishes in regards to his burial.
