In a generous move, Rugby Southland has donated a significant sum of $18,323.80 to the Hawthorndale Care Village, a gesture made possible by the overwhelming success of their Charity Campaign during the 2023 Bunnings NPC season.

The donation was accumulated through various supportive initiatives:

  • Paladin Sports donated $10 for every one of the 460 replica jerseys sold, totaling $4,600.
  • The jersey auction, which saw immense participation from fans, raised over $11,000.
  • SBS Bank, as part of their “Defend with Heart” campaign, donated $1 for every successful tackle by the SBS Bank Southland Stags, resulting in $1,883.
  • Game day donations from fans also contributed significantly to the final amount.

Jack King, Rugby Southland’s Commercial and Marketing Manager, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Rugby Southland has always championed community spirit. This donation reflects our dedication to supporting our community. Special thanks to SBS Bank, Paladin Sports, and our incredible fans and sponsors for their contributions. Supporting the Hawthorndale Care Village’s essential work is truly an honor.”

Helen Robinson, who leads the Hawthorndale Care Village project, shared her heartfelt thanks. “This generous donation will greatly aid in preparing our village for our residents’ arrival in 2025. We’re immensely grateful for Rugby Southland’s unwavering support.”

The campaign not only raised funds but also amplified awareness for dementia care and the Hawthorndale Care Village initiative. With Sky Sport’s promotional efforts, the campaign’s message reached countless individuals both in New Zealand and internationally.

This act of generosity further cements Rugby Southland’s bond with its community and highlights its commitment to social responsibility.
