If you're still tidying up after the recent storm, you’ll be able to get rid of your green waste and scrap metal for free this weekend in Invercargill.
To access the green waste drop-off, you must enter from the south end of Bond Street via Bluff Highway/Clyde Street. Entry from the north end will not be permitted. Only light vehicles and residential trailers will be accepted at the site.
Scrap metal must be taken to specific drop-off points and not to the transfer station, where usual fees still apply. Accepted items include clean scrap metal such as corrugated iron, clotheslines and disassembled trampolines.
Invercargill City Council Manager Infrastructure Operations Matt Keil said damage throughout the community had been widespread, and the free disposal service was a way to support residents as they returned to normal life.
“We really appreciate people’s patience while we made these arrangements. We know it’s been a huge clean-up job for many people,” Keil said.
“This is all about making it a little easier for everyone to get back on their feet and clear their sections safely. Load it up, drop it off, and together we’ll keep the recovery rolling.”
The free green waste drop-off point at 351 Bond Street in Invercargill will be open on Saturday 15 November from 8am to 6pm, and again on Sunday 16 November from 9am to 6pm. The last entry each day will be at 5.30pm.
Access will be from the south end of Bond Street via Bluff Highway and Clyde Street. Only light vehicles and residential trailers will be accepted, with no entry available from the north end.
Bluff residents who have green waste or clean scrap metal to dispose of will be able to do so on Saturday 22 November. Further details on the Bluff service will be released next week.
