The Southland Sports Car Club is offering free entry to all spectators at this Sunday’s motor racing at Teretonga Park.
The meeting, presented by Downer, will feature the opening round of the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloons plus Sports & Racing Car races and the club is planning a quickfire race day with testing from 12noon, qualifying from 12.40pm and racing from 1.40pm.
The Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans races should provide good racing with Invercargill brothers Dion Dawson in a Saker and Kyle Dawson in a Nissan Skyline expected to be two of the fast men along with Winton driver Brent Cross in a Mitsubishi EVO 3. Invercargill drivers Todd Blackmun and Walter Willmott will be quick in their rapid Star Cars while there will be some good battles amongst the multitude of Toyota’s, Honda’s and the like. Club President Rachael Beck will be on track in her very competitive Fiat 850 while four new faces will line up – Invercargill drivers Travis McPherson (Toyota Corolla), Andrew Lawrie (Mitsubishi Mirage), Daniel McIntosh (Toyota Corolla FX-GT) and Camble Mann of Dunedin (Nissan Primera). The Invercargill trio has all graduated from the local Clubsport Championship, with Lawrie the reigning Champion.
Unfortunately there is only a small field for the Sports & Racing car races but there are some very special cars within their ranks including Dave McKenzie’s Begg FM3 and Sam Smith’s Rhubarb sports car.
