Post Office is the heart of Invercargill.
Up until Post Office was built the square outside the old building was where everybody met everybody in Invercargill.
It was the centre of activity in the city and the place where people congregated and discussed the affairs of state and country.
The old Post Office square.
The picture was taken shortly after the introduction of electric trams in Invercargill, but a breath of the old days is given in relief as a horse and cart swings down Dee Street.
The new Post Office and still the heart of the city. New City Corporation buses replace the trams and motor cars the horse and carts. Traffic lights add a further modern touch to the picture.
