Invercargill police seek information on series of aggravated robberies and burglaries

Invercargill Police are appealing to the public for information after five youths have been arrested and charged for a series of aggravated robberies and burglaries.

On Sunday 19 September, Police were called to North Road about 5.45am after the alleged offenders have entered a commercial premises with face coverings and targeted tobacco products.

About 6am on Monday 28 September, Police were notified of offenders entering a premises on Dee Street. It is alleged employees have been threatened before tobacco products and confectionery items were taken.

On Wednesday 30 September Police were called to a premises on Salford Street about 9am where employees were threatened with weapons before the offenders targeted tobacco and cash.

Initial enquiries have resulted in Police arresting and charging five youths. They have been charged with aggravated robbery, one youth has also been charged with remaining with intent.

Acting Detective Sergeant Sarah Harper says Police believe alleged stolen vehicles have been used to assist the group in their offending.

"Our enquiries into these incidents remain ongoing as we work to identify and locate the remaining offenders and stolen vehicles.

"At this stage we believe these incidents are linked, and further arrests and charges have not yet been ruled out."

Police acknowledge these incidents are distressing for the victims, and are working to hold those believed to be responsible accountable.

As part of our enquiries, Police would like to speak with anyone who may have information that can assist in our investigation.

"If you have seen suspicious activity in these areas around the times of the incidents, or any CCTV or dashcam footage, please contact us," says Acting Detective Sergeant Harper.
