Breaking news: Three fire truck appliances were were dispatched to James Hargest Senior College on Layard Street in Invercargill.
The school’s fire alarm was activated at 3.20pm today, the same time as the school day usually ends. The school was evacuated and police were directing traffic outside the school.
Sources say the fire was started in a male toilet B block allegedly by students smoking. Witnesses said bright red flames could be seen and it looked like the fire had spread.
Fire service staff are still at the scene.
