Fire Destroys Building At Tiwai Point Smelter

Early Sunday morning at about 2:45am Fire and Emergency crews were sent to the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter.

A building on side between two potlines was destroyed with damage contained to the one building and there were no injuries, production was not interrupted by the building fire.

They also had to take care with run-off.

The fire had been contained and six crews remained on site damping the area down.
