There’s a wood chip fire on Bluff Road, three helicopters are on the scene battling windy conditions to contain the fires.
Diversions are in place off State Highway 1 at Awarua, south of Invercargill, due to a fire at a timber mill.
These are at Tiwai Road, Awarua School Road, and Colyer Road.
These diversions are not suitable for heavy vehicles.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible, and have patience.
What we know:
- An Emergency services call out responding to a fire at Southwood Export Limited, between Invercargill and Bluff
- Fire crews with two helicopters, four tankers and four fire engines were trying to contain the fire, which was not out yet
- The highway has been closed to southbound traffic
- Police were restricting traffic movements in the area.
