Brother’s Kyle and Dion Dawson were to the fore in the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Saloon races at the motor racing event presented by Downer.
Conditions were variable throughout the day with rain at times but with the track drying quickly between showers.
Kyle Dawson won the first two Group A Clubmans Races in his Nissan Skyline GTR from his brother Dion in a Saker GT before Dion won the 1601cc & over Class Race from Kyle. The brothers had some good battles and their fastest lap times in one of the races were just 11/1000th’s of a second apart.
In Class B, Mark Dean of Arrowtown was dominant, winning both races in his Toyota Starlet, the first from Invercargill drivers Andrew Lawrie and Stacy Lines (Corolla FX-GT) and the second from Brent Cross of Winton (EVO 3) and Lines.
Dean also won the 0-1600cc Class Race from Andrew Muir of Gore (Honda Civic) and Bradley Dawson of Invercargill (Toyota Trueno). Unfortunately, Lawrie’s day ended with what looked to be a serious mechanical problem in his Mitsubishi Mirage.
In the Flying Farewell Dion Dawson took the spoils from Dean and Muir.
Jordan Michels of Invercargill dominated the small fields in the Sports & Racing Car Class winning all four races in his Mygale with Sam Smith in the Rhubarb Sports Car and Greg Millane in his Reynard sharing the minor placings. Smith was the big improver of the day dropping his lap times from 1 minute 34.355 to 1.06.427 later in the day.
The next race meeting at the circuit takes place over the weekend of 1st & 2nd December.
