Exclusive: Kmart Store Location And Opening Date Scheduled For Late 2018

What’s On Invers first broke the news a Muffin Break franchise – slated for the new Kmart development in Invercargill – was first advertised for sale in May this year – last week Foodco New Zealand listed the Muffin Break franchise opportunity through its Facebook channels causing another social media storm – whatsoninvers.nz decided to “reach out” to our Kmart contact in Australia.
The Muffin Break franchise advert suggests the Kmart development would be opening in the ‘fourth quarter of 2017,” and shows a map of the potential Kmart site for Invercargill – both are incorrect.
A Kmart spokesperson said Kmart are “actively seeking a store location in Invercargill, however at this point in time (September 19), we have not reached an agreement”.
Kmart “are hopeful that we may be in a position to announce a store location and opening date of late 2018”.
Foodco New Zealand, executive assistant Maree Keane, confirmed the Muffin Break franchise for “Kmart Invercargill” would open “late 2018” not 2017 as advertised.
Ms Keane said the Invercargill franchise was still available as of today (September 19) and there had been a “number of excellent candidates”.
