The 2024/2025 motor racing season launched at Invercargill’s Teretonga Park in September with the traditional South Island Endurance Series. After a brief break, the season is set to roar into high gear with an exciting lineup of events that promise to deliver thrilling action for fans throughout the summer.

The first major event of the season arrives on the weekend of 7–8 December, showcasing a diverse roster of racing classes, including OSCA Super Saloons, Pre-78 Classic Saloons, and the South Island Formula Ford Championship. Spectators will be treated to two full days of high-speed competition with classes such as the SS Cup, Pro 8 NZ, NZ6 Saloons, the 2K Cup South Island Teretonga Challenge, and the Noel McIntyre Drainage Club Saloons.

In a highlight of the season, international motor racing returns to Teretonga Park from 31 January to 2 February with the NextGen New Zealand Championship. The event will feature the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship (CTFROC) alongside popular classes such as Summerset GT NZ, the Bridgestone GR86 Championship, the Nexen Tyre NZ Mazda Racing Series, and Pirelli Porsche. CTFROC has a rich history of showcasing future Formula 1 stars, including Lando Norris, currently vying for the F1 Championship, along with Yuki Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Zhou Guanyu, and New Zealand’s own Liam Lawson.

Following the international showcase, the Ascot Park Hotel Classic SpeedFest will take place from 14–16 February, celebrating the heritage of motor racing. The lineup features Mainland Muscle Cars, Pre-78 Classic Saloons, HVRA, Vintage Racing Cars, Classic Saloons, and the Mini 7 South. With the addition of the MX5 Heritage Cup and Noel McIntyre Drainage Club Saloons, the event promises a weekend of nostalgia and high-speed excitement.

In March, Southern Thunder returns over the weekend of 14–16 March, with the NZ Super Trucks and Mainland Muscle Cars headlining the event. Fans can look forward to a classic Ford versus Holden rivalry as the NZ V8 Utes make their first appearance at Teretonga since 2017. Rounding out the weekend will be the MX5 Heritage Cup, Pre-65 Saloons, NZ6 Saloons, Noel McIntyre Drainage Club Saloons, and the annual One Hour race.

The season wraps up in style with the bi-annual George Begg Festival from 11–13 April, organised by Transport World Events.
