Venture Southland is hosting three events this month focusing on the future of work.
Preparing for an ageing workforce and adapting to changes in immigration policy are two of the major challenges currently facing Southland businesses.
To address these challenges, the three free events will focus on the future of work as we know it, and outline the recent changes to New Zealand immigration visa requirements.
The events are part of a coordinated response by Venture Southland to tackle the projected people shortage in the region Venture Southland labour market coordinator Kirsten Diack said the events will encourage employers to adapt their employment and recruitment practices and future-proof their businesses.
Venture Southland is partnering with CATE (Careers and Transition Education Association NZ Inc.) to hold the ‘Future of Work’ event being held on September 13 at the Kelvin Hotel.
The event will be hosted by Carine Stewart from Victoria University of Wellington and is part of the 2018 Future Talks programme coordinated by Venture Southland.
Stewart, who is a senior advisor for student engagement and employability, will discuss international megatrends in employment, the top 10 employability skills young New Zealanders need and how businesses can adapt their recruitment practices to hire Millennials and those of Generation Z.
Diack said the event will give businesses the tools and knowledge they need to adapt their
recruitment practices for changing demographics in the workplace.
Venture Southland is also partnering with Immigration New Zealand to deliver two seminars about changes to visa requirements.
The employer-focused seminars will focus on the changes to the work and residence visas and update attendees on the Accredited Employer Programme.
Diack recommended that any businesses currently employing migrants, or considering doing so in the future, should attend one of the seminars regarding the policy changes. The immigration seminars will be held at Venture Southland on the 19 and 20 of September.
Although both the ‘Future of Work’ event and the two Immigration seminars are free to attend, places are limited so registration is essential.
