After a very successful Evolution Motorsport Clubsport Championship, the Southland Sports Car Club is wrapping up their season in style with a non-championship clubsport event to celebrate the season with a fun day at Teretonga Park on Saturday 6 April.
The Evolution Motorsport Clubsport End Of Season Triathlon consists of three events – a Standing ¼, two motorkhana tests and an Autocross event and times will be collated for overall bragging rights.
Sign-in for the Standing ¼ and Motorkhana will commence at 8.30am and the events begin at 9.30am.
The Autocross sign-in runs from 12noon to 12.45pm, with the event due to commence at 1.00pm.
Cost for the Standing ¼ and Motorkhana is $20 and the Autocross is $30.
Newcomers are welcome and can take part in all or some of the events. Motorkhana competitors need only a WOF standard car and can be 12 years of age and over while the Evolution Motorsport Toyota is available for hire for the event for a cost of $20.
A motorkhana is a tight course around cones that particularly suits small, nimble cars. The Standing ¼ is a sprint over a measured ¼ mile from a standing start. Autocross sees cars make a run of approximately one to two minutes against the clock. Competitors get an indian file familiarisation run before getting three or four timed runs to try and achieve their fastest time. The Standing ¼ is a sprint over a measured ¼ mile from a standing start. Competitors in the Autocross require a fire extinguisher, overalls and a helmet although helmets can be hired from the club on the day.
Those who are not club members are able to contest two events to decide if they wish to continue before joining the Southland Sports Car Club. Competitors can be as young as twelve with parental permission.
Clubsport is a cheap, fun and welcoming environment in which to become involved in motorsport so contact the club if you have any questions.
Spectators are welcome and entry to spectate is free.
The day will finish in the clubrooms for a social gathering to celebrate a great season.
