This Saturday Riverside Speedway puts a full stop on what could only be described as an epic season of speedway action. Track commentator Daryl Shuttleworth said “the club has certainly taken the entertainment factor to a whole new level, and with some great ideas in the pipeline its only going to get bigger and better”.The final race meeting is no exception with the club signing off the way they started the season with multiple championships up for grabs, carnage guaranteed with the Steves Autos Demolition Derby and to thank the loyal Speedway followers of Southland the club will put on another fireworks extravaganza.
21 Logan McNamara and 72 Wade Crawford will represent the Southland Spartans. Photo: Corbyn ShuttleworthThe final round of the Southern Bullet Series will come down to the wire with Raymond Phillips sitting just two points behind series leader Jase McMullin. The pair have had totally different journeys to the top of the points table, McMullin has been Mr Consistent, ensuring he has bagged points each meeting but not banking race wins, where Phillips has been lightening fast with race wins, but reliability has cost him dearly, who will it be that claims the title, Mr Consistency or Mr Fast?Saloons have the Southland title up for grabs and the growing popularity of the grade has been a feature this season. Euan Shearing will be hoping to finish the season strongly after being selected as a member of the South Island Saloon Team, but it could be another Shearing who could spoil the party with Dean Shearing being dominant last meeting winning three races from three starts.Sprintcars Southland Title will also be up for grabs in what should be a great spectacle with the expectation of some out of town drivers heading south to contest this. The Beachlands Bulldogs will travel South after a win at the Streetstock State Of Origin recently to take on the Riverside Raiders, this is always an action packed affair with both teams prepared to put their cars on the line for Southern supremacy in Street Stocks.
Euan Shearing will be a hot favorite in Southland Saloon Champs. Much like the Street Stocks the Stock Cars will leave it all on track, it will be brutal, and these drivers will whatever it takes for their province to win the battle. The day will be topped off with the Steves Auto Demolition Derby and with last years record number of entries expected to be surpassed, this will be worth the price of admission alone. All of this along with a fireworks extravaganza thrown in, and the Southland public is going to be massive day of entertainment.Gates open midday, racing starts 2pm. by Daryl Shuttleworth.
