Ongoing vandalism of public toilets at Edendale and Wyndham is costing the community and causing potential health hazards for contractors.

At the Wyndham toilets in Balaclava Street fires have been lit in the cubicle, the toilet seat has been smashed and gravel from the playground has been placed in the cistern.

At the Edendale Domain toilets in Salford Street pipes have been smashed.

At both facilities faeces have been smeared on the walls, with blood also spread around at Edendale.

The vandalism has occurred over more than a month, on about 10 occasions.

Cleaning up and carrying our repairs after each criminal act is draining Edendale Wyndham Community Board resources and creating unsanitary conditions for contractors.

People are asked to report any suspicious activity to police, or to contact Southland District Council on 0800 732 732 if they discover further instances of damage.
