One person has died in a crash on the Winton Lorneville Highway – Fatal crash, near Winton, Southland.
Police are at the scene of a serious crash on the Winton Lorneville Highway.
Emergency services were alerted to a van that had rolled near Gap Road West at around 4:45am.
- Sadly one person has died at the scene.
- The other occupants have a range of injuries ranging from serious to moderate.
- The road is closed and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
Diversions are in place.
Detour route: For heavy vehicles heading westbound on SH96 Winton-Hedgehope Hwy turn left onto Egerton Rd then right onto Gap Rd, then left onto SH6. For heavy vehicles heading eastbound on SH96 Winton-Wreys Bush Hwy turn right onto Winton Substation Rd, then left onto Gap Rd, then right onto SH6. For all other southbound vehicles turn right onto Eglinton St, then onto Price Rd, then left onto Winton Substation Rd, then left onto Gap Rd West, then right onto SH6. Reverse for northbound vehicles.
