Healthy Pets New Zealand is once again hosting the two-day ‘Dogs Day Out’ event, to give canine owners a chance to learn some new things and have a great day out with their dogs.

The event first started in February 2021 and provides dog owners with valuable education, as well as a chance to join a great family event celebrating all things canine.

The event kicks off with the Invercargill parkrun welcoming ‘barkrunners’ at 8am in the usual place in Queens Park, so register online at https://www.parkrun.co.nz/invercargill/

Royal Canin are back as the Education Partners for the Saturday evening Dog
Education Seminars, which includes keynote speaker and world nutrition expert Nick Cave from Massey University talking about “Raw food nutrition, facts, philosophies, and fallacies”.

Dr Cath Rivron of Veterinary Behavioural Therapy will also be talking on how to tell if your dog’s anxiety requires further action, and local star Christina Rock of Happy Hound Vet will advise on recognising the signs of pain in older dogs.

Te Pukenga/Southern Institute of Technology is kindly hosting the evening in
the spacious Hansen Hall, with doors open from 5pm for a $5 entry fee, finger food provided. Anyone interested in attending can register on the HPNZ Dog Education Seminar Facebook page.

The Sunday Dogs Day Out field day will be held at the Ascot Park Raceway again, and entry is a gold coin donation at the gate accessed off Findlay Rd through VetSouth. There will be demonstrations and have-a-go events by the local dog clubs including sled dog racing, obedience, rally O & scent work, and an all-breeds ribbon parade where every dog is welcome.

Local dog clubs involved include Southland Sled Dog club, Southland Dog Training Club and the Southland Kennel Association.

Healthy Pets NZ chair Cath Watson said as a special event around midday we’ll have a talk and demonstration by Murray Milne-Maresca of the NZ Fire Service, and his accelerant detection dog Boss.

“There will be a big exhibition area with all your favourite local dog stores, the Invercargill City Council animal control team will be offering free microchipping, and the Te Pukenga/SIT veterinary nursing will be running a community clinic.”

The Ascot Park Raceway Sunday market will also be running next door for any food and drinks people may need to keep up with their dog for the day.
