There are three new COVID-19 cases in the Southern region, according to the Ministry of Health. The region’s total now sits at 213 confirmed and probable cases.
Out of all people with the coronavirus in the region, 116 have so far recovered, and no new cases in Clutha or Southland have been announced. Day three no new cases as of Wednesday, there were 58 total cases in Southland, 41 in Invercargill, two in Gore, and five in Clutha.
Southern DHB Chief Executive Chris Fleming says the Ministry of Health is the lead agency for the COVID-19 response. As a result, enquiries relating to a patient’s death at an Invercargill property would be addressed by the Director-General of Health Dr. Ashley Boomfield when information on the cause of death was available.
The Ministry of Health says their thoughts are with the patient’s family at this sad time, and requests that their privacy be respected.
