A big weekend of motor racing action presented by Downer is underway at Teretonga Park in Invercargill.

Today (Saturday) saw qualifying and one race for each class and in the popular OSCA Super Saloons it was championship leader Laine Etwell of Rolleston who took the spoils in his Pontiac GTO.

Local driver Liam MacDonald had taken pole position but was a non-finisher in the race.

The South Island Formula 1600 race was won by Josh Bethune of Auckland in his Ray from James Penrose of Rangiora and Invercargill’s Jordan Michels.

Dunedin driver Jamie Hodgins won the SS Cup race in his Toyota Starlet while Kyle Dawson of Invercargill took the Noel McIntyre Drainage Club Saloons Group A race and Wal Willmot the Group B contest.

Phil Gurney of Rangiora won the opening 2K Cup Teretonga Challenge race in his Toyota Levin AE111 and Paul Clarke of Mosgiel was the victor in the Pre 65 Saloon race in his Holden EH Special with Geoff Holland of Eyrewell in Canterbury taking the Mini 7 South spoils. Blair Sutherland of Alexandra took his Holden Commodore to victory in the NZ Six Saloon race while NZ1 Sam Wallace of Christchurch took the Pro 7 race.

A full day of action follows on Sunday from 9.00am. Admission on Sunday is $15 while children 14 and under accompanied by an adult receive free admission.
