Budding Southland performers and dance enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend as Footnote New Zealand Dance visits the city.
The contemporary dance company will present their latest work, Search Engine and host a dance masterclass on Saturday, 12 May.
The performance and masterclass are part of the Southland Arts Festival that is on until Sunday, 20 May.
Search Engine, choreographed by Lauren Langlois, Rose Philpott and Tupua Tigafua, will treat the audience to fragmented light displays that complement the physicality of the five dancers.
Southland Arts Festival director Angela Newell says that the show has been designed to intrigue, delight and surprise.
Newell is also excited to offer Southland dancers the opportunity to be inspired by Footnote dancers at the masterclass.
The masterclass will be hosted by artistic liaison Anita Hunziker who leads the technique programme for Footnote Dance.
Hunziker has been an Assistant Choreographer for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 World of Wearable Art Awards show and has taught masterclass programmes across the country in private dance schools and professional studios.
“The masterclass will involve learning a combination of contemporary techniques and repertoire from the highly skilled Anita Hunziker,” Newell said.
Participants who attend the masterclass will also gain exclusive insight into the choreographic processes used to create Search Engine before attending the performance later that night.
The masterclass will be held from 12:00pm, Saturday 12 May at the Invercargill Musical Theatre and is free for participants to register.
Newell said there was strong interest in the masterclass so encouraged participants to register as there are limited places available.
Tickets to Search Engine, held at the Scottish Hall on Saturday, 12 May at 6:30pm, are available from TicketDirect with door sales available from 6.00pm, if not sold out prior.
