Firefighters have successfully contained a fire at Niagara Sawmill after a sawdust hopper ignited.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand received the call at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, reporting the fire at the sawmill on Kennington Road.

Three crews from Invercargill and Kingswell were dispatched to the scene to manage the "small fire." The blaze was located in one of the mill's sawdust hoppers, which is designed to collect and remove sawdust. The building was evacuated as a precaution, and no injuries have been reported.
