Sad to hear that country music star Charley Pride has passed away.

Charley died due to complications from Covid 19 aged 86 in Dallas Texas.

The super star certainly knew what it was like to grow up poor and make it to the big time.

The Mississippi native picked cotton, served in the United States Army and played baseball before moving to Nashville, becoming the first Black country star. He joined the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Pride had a prolific career with over 50 Top 10 country hits, won three Grammy awards and became RCA Records’ top-selling country artist.

He released dozens of albums and sold more than 25 million records during his career.

Country Charley Pride also visited our shores a few times with hugely popular tours.
