The Southland District Council has called out vandals who wrecked Riverton’s newly built $620,000 public toilets overnight, labelling them a "brainless numpty" in a pointed social media post.
Council staff discovered the facility trashed with wet toilet paper stuck to walls and floors. Expressing frustration, they shared a stern message with the public, shaming those responsible for creating what they called a “disgusting mess”.
The post stated: "I hope next time you are in desperate need of a public toilet there isn't a scrap of toilet paper to wipe your butt."
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time vandals targeted the Taramea Bay toilets. The post continued, noting this was the second time in as many weeks that the new public amenity had been subjected to vandalism.
“To see the community's newest facilities treated like this by some brainless numpty (or numpties if plural is appropriate) is incredibly disappointing. Next time, show some damn respect,” the council wrote.
Southland District Council has previously dealt with regular acts of vandalism at other public toilet facilities in Lumsden. However, a spokesperson confirmed they were not aware of any further incidents affecting other locations this time.
