The Rugby Park Supporters Club fit-out issue has been resolved, with the Invercargill City Council now agreeing to cover the costs.
Council was currently dealing with some big projects, including Rugby Park, which had been causing conflict in recent months, prompting the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) to be involved.
Nobody could agree on who was responsible for the fit-out costs, after the room was stripped to remove toxic mould – the supporters or the council.
The issue had caused wide debate between some councillors and the CEO several weeks ago, with accusations of untruths regarding who had said they would pay.
The council understood that the supporters club was going to carry out the work, but following another recent meeting between rugby officials and the council, that turned out not to be the case.
At an extraordinary infrastructure meeting yesterday, it was recommended by the council’s property manager that the $100,000 cost be met by the council – of which councillors agreed.
