Peter Templeton’s lifetime of service to his community was recognised when he received a Southland District Council Community Service Award at Riverton on 21 July.

Southland District Mayor Gary Tong presented the award at a function attended by family, friends, Western Southland sporting colleagues and community board members from Riverton/Aparima and Tuatapere, where Mr Templeton has left a huge impression through many years of volunteer work and fundraising.

He is the longtime president of the Tuatapere Axemen’s Athletic Society and has been the official commentator for the southern timbersports circuit for 30 years, as well as organising many events. Many community groups have benefited from Mr Templeton’s tireless fundraising.

The function was held at the Bupa Longwood Retirement Village and Care Home.
