- Southbound lanes on Clyde Street will close from Tuesday to Thursday between key intersections
- Full roundabout closure planned from Monday 14 April lasting up to four days total
- Business access remains open on closed side streets during southbound lane closures
Significant progress has already been made on resurfacing works in Invercargill, with recent improvements on Dee Street, Tay Street and Clyde Street. The surfacing team has now completed the northbound lanes of Clyde Street between Bond Street and the Troopers roundabout. Much of the southbound lanes between Tweed Street and Bond Street have also been resurfaced.
Evening work has continued steadily, and the remaining daytime works require southbound lane closures. These efforts will soon be followed by resurfacing at the Tweed Street roundabout.
The next stage of the programme is set to begin on Tuesday 8 April, with southbound lanes of Clyde Street closed between the Troopers roundabout/Tay Street and Tweed Street roundabout from 9am to 9pm. The northbound lanes will remain open.
Wood, Forth, Tyne and Eye Streets will be closed to through traffic but will allow access for businesses only.
These restrictions continue into Wednesday 9 April, with the same closures in place. During both days:
- Light vehicles will be diverted via Conon Street and Tweed Street
- HPMV and heavy vehicles will use Rockdale Road and Tweed Street
- Vehicles over 4.3m high must use Inglewood Road and Tweed Street
If weather conditions remain favourable, all resurfacing between Troopers roundabout and Tweed Street could be finished by Wednesday evening, allowing Clyde Street to fully reopen in both directions.
Work will then move south of Tweed Street roundabout. On Thursday 10 April, southbound lanes of SH1 Clyde Street will be closed between Tweed Street roundabout and Ettrick Street from 9am to 9pm.
Detours for Thursday will include:
- Light vehicles via Ettrick and Bond Streets or Ettrick and Conon Streets
- HPMV and heavy vehicles via Rockdale Road, Tweed Street, Conon Street and Bowmont Street
- The same detour applies in reverse for return traffic
- Vehicles over 4.3m will need to use Inglewood Road and Tweed Street
Friday 11 April is set aside as a contingency day in case of poor weather. Updates will be shared if the schedule changes.
From Monday 14 to Thursday 17 April, the Tweed Street/SH1 roundabout will be fully closed 24/7. Work is expected to take two days but up to four days have been scheduled to account for weather or unexpected conditions.
During this closure, detours will remain the same as earlier in the week for both light and heavy vehicles.
The team is aiming to keep disruptions to a minimum and appreciates the public’s patience during these essential upgrades.
